Voice chat with strangers — without sharing your number
Sometimes a voice note says what text can’t. Here’s how voice notes and photos work on Drdsha, how to use them so people actually reply, and how to keep your privacy while you do.
Voice notes, not live calls
On Drdsha, voice chat means voice notes: you record a short message, send it in the conversation, and the other person listens when they’re ready. There are no live voice or video calls, which keeps things relaxed — nobody is put on the spot. A voice note can be up to two minutes long by default.
How to send a voice note
- Open a conversation from the online list or your chats.
- Hold the microphone button in the message bar (allow microphone access the first time).
- Speak, then release to send — or slide away to cancel.
Voice notes work in both the web app and the Android app.
Photos in the same thread
You can also send photos (JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP) in the same chat, so a conversation can mix text, voice and pictures. Media is stored privately and delivered through short-lived links, and like text it’s removed after the retention window (30 days by default).
Voice note etiquette that gets replies
- Say hi in text first, then send a voice note once the conversation is going.
- Keep the first one short — 10 to 20 seconds is plenty.
- Find a quiet spot so you don’t have to repeat yourself.
- Match the other person’s language: Arabic, English, or a mix.
- If someone prefers text, respect that.
Privacy tips for voice and photos
- Your voice can identify you — share it when you’re comfortable, not because you’re asked.
- Listen for background audio: names, announcements, a TV or other people talking.
- Check photos for addresses, documents, car plates and reflections.
- Anything you send can be saved by the person who receives it.

Unwanted voice notes or photos
Unsolicited explicit media isn’t allowed under the Community Guidelines, and neither is continuing after someone says no. If you receive something you didn’t ask for, block and report the sender from the chat.
Get replies faster on Android
The Android app adds push notifications, so you know when a reply arrives. Notification previews use generic text such as “New message”, so the content of a voice note or photo never appears on your lock screen.
